Kristina Sutcliffe – Owner

I have been in the floral business for more than 20 years, with more than a decade at the helm of European Flower Shop here in Boulder, Colo. My floral designs are inspired by a single guiding principle: Floral arrangements should not be contrived or posed. Rather, they should have movement. It’s my job to let a flower’s natural beauty shine though.

I attribute this philosophy to my dance training as a child. My designs exemplify that core sense of artistry with their balance, form, and fluidity. In fact, I’ve been known to dance while I’m designing floral arrangements in the studio.

I grew up all over the world; my father was an exploration geologist and moved my family to a different country every couple years. I attribute my appreciation for nature and flowers to the fact that my family and I had explored much of the world by the time I was 15 years old. It’s also why my flowers can’t be categorized. Each composition I create pulls from the myriad cultures and aesthetics I’ve encountered in my lifetime.

After attending floral school in Chicago in 1991, I started my first flower shop, Some’re Everlasting, in Lake Forrest, Ill. When I eventually moved back to Boulder with my husband, Peter, and daughter, Haley. I bought the European Flower Shop, where I have steadily built an outstanding reputation in the Boulder community and throughout the Colorado wedding industry.

Going Green

We’re committed to going green! European Flower Shop uses local growers for our fresh flowers whenever possible. When we outsource, we work with a company called Veriflora, which works with growers around the world to buy sustainable, free trade flowers that are grown organically. We are starting a compost program for all of our floral waste, so that we may bring back to life the beauty that supports our business.
